If you already own the Switch version I dont think the 39.99 price tag justifies a repurchase. ![]() Super Bomberman R is a well put together package on Xbox One and Playstation 4 that benefits from updates provided over the course of the year on the Switch Version. Sadly beating the game on the harder difficulties does not unlock the easier difficulty achievements so you will be required to beat the game three times. Other achievements include playing 1,000 multiplayer matches and beating the game on veteran difficulty. I'm not quite sure how long it will take to use 1 million bombs. No one one Xbox One has met the requirements for two of the heavy hitting achievements. The achievements are very grinding and will take upwards of 80 to 100 hours. Fans of Bomberman looking for a quick completion will have to look elsewhere. There are currently 32 achievements worth 1,000 gamerscore or a Platinum Trophy for Playstation 4 users. Hopefully this is something that is addressed in a future patch. It was bad enough to ruin the experience. It was hard to find matches with other people and once inside a match the lag was significant. The online performance wasn't that great however. I had no crashes nor did I experience any major bugs hindering my time with the game. The Xbox One benefits from having the game previously released last year as there have been several patches to the Switch version to make it perform better. ![]() There is not much to report on this front as Super Bomberman R isn't exactly the game to push current hardware. Perfomance is a small step over the Switch version with higher quality textures and a more stable framerate at launch. You will be picking up various power ups that will increase the radius of your bomb or even give you extra ammo. You are dropped in a maze armed with your trusty bombs that help to defeat the various enemies. Its the basic gameplay that everyone feel in love with. The gameplay returns to its roots in Super Bomberman R. The story is split between six different worlds each with a different setting such as forest and snow themes. There are different objectives that can be as simple as defeating all enemies in a stage or locating keys to advance in the stage. There are multiple difficulty levels you can set before you begin if you want an easier or harder time with the game. There are 50 stages to beat split up by boss battles every ten levels that will take you roughly 6 to 8 hours to beat. Lets see how the more powerful consoles handle the port.Īlthough most people will enjoy the multiplayer aspects of Super Bomberman R there is a story mode to engage in when your friends are not around. Most of that was performance related issues that were fixed via patches. Originally released in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch, Super Bomberman R launched with mixed reviews. This pack is mostly there to give people who purchase it 14 characters to play as but is also the only way you can go about hosting your own Super Bomberman R Online matches and playing with friends in general (unless they own the pack).Super Bomberman R is developed and published by Konami. While it is free to join into a Private Match, you cannot host a lobby unless you own the Premium Pack, which is listed at $9.99. There is another problem if you are looking to play a game with a friend in a Private Match. Instead, you can only play with friends in a Private Match. Also, you cannot start a Quick Match search with a friend, meaning there is no way to go into public games with a friend. For starters, there is no local multiplayer, so only one player can play on a console at a time. Super Bomberman R Online does feature a way to play with friends online, although it is an odd way to go about handling it. So can you play Super Bomberman R Online with friends? Battle royales can be fun experiences alone, but sometimes you just want to share those adventures with a friend. However, this time he is blowing up the battle royale genre with 64 player lobbies, unlockable cosmetics, and nods to other Konami franchises. Bomberman may not be as much of a staple in video games as he used to be, but the cute little explosive psychopath still pops up now and then.
